As I was braving the social jungle of grade school I found out that not everyone gets me. Now that's not such an easy truth for a first grader to accept.
Thanks to my mom I knew then and I know now- a friend is someone who you can be yourself with. And it only takes one friend like that to make you happy. If you need to change who you are for someone they'll only end up making you miserable.
Don't dry dishes on a high shelf
Every time water trickled down my arm as I placed a dish on a drying rack above the sink I thought about this simple fact my mom let me in on when I moved to my first apartment. It might seem like a perfect place to dry dishes but trust me, you'll be sorry.
How to choose a great man
We never had a conversation about what a good man is. Girls learn about choosing a partner by watching the person their mother chose to spend her life with.
What I saw is a life partner, sharing all responsibilities equally inside and outside of the home. A man who is flawed only in ways you can put up with and who inspires you to be a better version of yourself.
I credit the amazing man I chose to the perfect example my parents set for me.
Planning is the key to success
My mother can do in one day what other people do in a week. Her secret is planning. She can tell you today what she'll be doing at a certain time next month and she's never missed a dead line.
Working Hard makes your dreams come true
It's no coincidence that both my sister and I have a crazy work ethic. We believe in getting the job done no matter what. I might have been the only first grader in our neighborhood washing dishes and folding laundry but it paid off big time.
Spiders don’t like beds
I recently found out that this may not be true, but hey, it helped me sleep at night so thanks mom.
My mother-in-law raised my husband
I've watched my mom put up with so much with her mother-in-law (another amazing woman but definitely not an easy one to have as an in-law). Through it all my mom treats her mother-in-law like a queen. She takes care of her and truly loves her.
What she always says about that is that your grandmother raised your father, enough said.
My mommy loves me
It's my mother's unconditional love that brought me to where I am today. Knowing there is at least one person in the world that loves me no matter what is what resides in the core of my self-esteem.
My mother doesn't judge or criticize she supports me in all things big and small. No matter what crazy thing I decide to do she'll be right there cheering me on. And that's the kind of mother I want to be.
This post is dedicated to my amazing mother on her birthday. I love you!!!
